Ezio Ghigo graduated in Medicine from the University of Turin in 1979 and received his postgraduate qualification in Endocrinology and Metabolism in 1982. He became a Full Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism in 1999 and has been Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine of the University of Turin since 2002.
He is a member of the Italian Society of Endocrinology, Italian Society of Diabetes, Italian Society of Andrology, American Endocrine Society, European NeuroEndocrine Association, Growth Hormone Research Society and the International Society of Gynaecological Endocrinology. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation and serves on the Executive Committee of the European Federation of Endocrine Societies.
His interests include the neural control of anterior pituitary function; diagnosis and treatment of GH deficiency in childhood and in adulthood; synthetic GH secretagogues and ghrelin; control of the HPA axis; endocrinology of aging; endocrinology of obesity and of anorexia nervosa.
He has published more than 200 original papers in major international journals mainly as first or last author and more than 100 other publications including reviews, chapters of books and letters. He has also been an invited speaker at meetings of the European Federation of Endocrine Societies, the American Endocrine Society and the International Society of Endocrinology and has chaired the following congresses: Italian Endocrine Society and the 5th European Congress of Endocrinology.
