Dr Casanueva is Professor of Medicine and Head of the Clinical Endocrinology section at the University Hospital at Santiago de Compostela University, Spain. After completing his medical training in Madrid, he moved to Milan, Italy, where he spent 3 years with Prof. Eugenio Muller. After this, he moved to Winnipeg, Canada, where he spent 2 years working with Prof. Henry Friesen. He is also a member of the European Society of Endocrinology and has served as an Executive Committee member, Vice-President and President.
He is a member of numerous other academic societies and serves on the editorial boards of several journals, with more than 250 peer-reviewed papers to his name. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Executive Committee at the International Society of Endocrinology.
His main research areas are regulation of growth hormone secretion, clinical neuroendocrinology and regulation and action of ghrelin.
