The bare bones of thyroid hormones

Hypothyroidism delays bone formation, whilst thyrotoxicosis accelerates skeletal development but is a risk factor for osteoporosis. We characterized mice with mutation or deletion of T3 receptors, TRα and TRβ, in several genetic backgrounds.
