Introduction: Clinical trials have show n that improved glycemic control reduces the incidence and progression of diabetes complications. One of the most important steps in diabetes treatment is to educate patients how to manage self monitorining blood glucose (SBGM) and adjust their life habits with their diabetes. A new diabetes management concept of structured testing is supported by Accu -Chek 360 View.

Objectives: Assess the impact of structured testing on glycemic levels and attitudes toward SMBG.

Methods: Multicenter, observational study involved 40 patients with diabetes, over 3 months from B&H patients were type 1 and type 2 diabetes with HbA1c level >8.0%, average age of 51.9 with a mean duration of diabetes of 8.2 years. After providing basic information on glycemic control to the patients, the Accu-Check 360° View form was provided to patients who performed 7-point glucose monitoring for three consecutive days, at baseline, month 1, month 2 and et the end of the study.

Results: HBAlc was significantly reduced with 1.7%. The decrease of HBAlc was from 9.7% at baseline to 8.0%, at the and of the study (P=0.001). There were no significant changes in lipid status and systolic and diastolic blood pressure from baseline to study end. Improvement in the average blood glucose level at all 7 times of assessment was achived. The mean blood glucose values were decrease d from 9.6 to 8.1 mmol/l. Moreover structure testing was associated with positive attitudes towards SMBG. The frequnecy of blood glucose testing increased from l6 times per week to 25 times per week.

Conclusions: Structure testing with use of Accu-Check 360 View tool was effective in improving diabetes control. Accu-Check 360 View tool can be used as an educational and motivational tool for strengthening patients empowerment in order to change lifestyle and to improve glucometabolic health.
