GH is related to hepatic mitochondrial activity in humans

Wolf Peter , Smajis Sabina , Gajdosiik Martin , Pfleger Lorenz , Winhofer Yvonne , Anderwald Christian-Heinz , Trattnig Siegfried , Luger Anton , Krssak Martin , Krebs Michael

Background: Altered hepatic mitochondrial activity plays a key role in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). GH has been shown to stimulate mitochondrial function in skeletal muscle. Therefore we hypothesize that the time course of serum GH concentrations during an oral glucose tolerance test might be related to hepatic mitochondrial energy metabolism in vivo in humans. Methods: 15 volunteers (male/female: 7/8; 55±8 y...

Modulation of the 22 kD/20 kD growth hormone (GH) ratio by exercise, fasting and glucose load in premenopausal women

Haenelt Michael , Schilbach Katharina , Gar Christina , Lechner Andreas , Schwaiger Rita , Bidlingmaier Martin

We previously have shown in a cohort of 236 non-fasted women that before and after a short high intensity exercise protocol (HIP) till exhaustion serum concentrations of 20 and 22 kD growth hormone (hGH) are highly correlated (P<0.0001). Although the GH response to exercise exhibited huge inter-individual differences, the 20 kD/22 kD-GH-ratio remained unchanged (9.6% vs 11.1%, P=0.313). A subgroup of the women was also studied under fasted conditions in a...

Insulin resistance and acromegaly: about 15 cases

Nawal El Ansari , Askaoui Sara

Contexte: Acromegaly is a rare disease, usually caused by hypersecretion of growth hormone (GH) by a pituitary adenoma and very rarely by ectopic secretion of GHRH. It remains a serious disease reduces life expectancy because of its cardiovascular and metabolic impact. Objective: The objective of this study is to report the glycemic profile in patients followed for acromegaly in the endocrinologic center of CHU Med VI of Marrakech.P...
