Holistic care for NEN patients: updates from the NET Patient Foundation, Mrs Catherine Bouvier (NPF)

Catherine Bouvier & Nikie Jervis

NET Patient Foundation, Leamington Spa, UK

Holistic care for NEN patients:: Holistic care is a ‘gold-standard’ model, defined as that which treats the whole person. A key factor to ensure that all the cogs in the NEN pathway work collaboratively, towards this goal, is to ensure that we are all listening to the perspective of the person living with NEN and that we focus conversations on Quality of Life: what it means to each individual and how we can, together, best help them manage and live well with their illness. The 6 key aspects of personal health – identified by our community – are the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, financial and historical factors that influence and shape their well-being. Acknowledging these factors and working in partnership to identify who is or what resources are available to provide best support is essential to truly deliver personalised, holistic care. NET Patient Foundation is not a standalone organisation, it relies on close collaboration between healthcare professionals, decision & policy makers and most importantly, the community it serves to help achieve a common goal: a world in which people know how to recognise, diagnose, treat, care for, and ultimately, cure patients with Neuroendocrine Cancer.
