Congenital TBG production disorder

Cepkova Jitka

Introduction: We describe the case of 35-year-old man in whom laboratory abnormalities in thyroid function were observed by chance.Case report: For the first time, the patient was examined in the local Department of Internal Medicine because of pre-arthroscopy examination in March 2002. Low level of total thyroid hormones (T3 0.76 nmol/l and T4 48.0 nmol/l) was observed by chance, while TSH value was normal (2.37 mIU/l). The patient...

Volume changes of thyroid gland in Graves’disease after radioactive iodine treatment

Cepkova Jitka

Introduction: The study describes volume changes of thyroid gland in patients with Graves’disease (GD) after radioactive iodine treatment in the University hospital in Hradec Kralove.Patients and Methods: Retrospectively, we analyzed 66 patients with GD (57 women and 9 men, mean age 52 ± 13.4 years). Elevated level of serum calcitonin of unknown origin

Cepkova Jitka

We describe a case of a 59-years old man, in whom a thyroid nodule with a size of 16 mm and an elevated serum calcitonin level 29 ng/l (upper limit 21 ng/l) was incidentally found. The size of a nodule did not increase in time, serum level of calcitonin was stable and cytology from the nodule was benign. In January 2016, calcium stimulation test was performed with a positive result (baseline calcitonin 31.5 ng/l, stimulated calcitonin 417 ng/l), CEA was low. The patient was re...

Occurrence of ATD-induced agranulocytosis and its treatment

Cepkova Jitka , Lasticova Martina , Cap Jan

Introduction: Agranulocytosis represents a serious complication of thyreostatic (ATD) treatment. The aim of our work was to determine how often did agranulocytosis occur in Graves’ disease patients admitted to the thyroid treatment department of our clinic for RAI treatment between the years 1999 and 2014.Patients and methods: We have retrospectively analysed 699 patients (572 women and 127 men at the average age of 51.5±12.9 years). 327 (47%) ...

Radioiodine treatment of Graves' disease: dose–response analysis

Cepkova Jitka , Svilias Ioannis , Krcalova Eva , Horacek Jiri

Introduction: Despite more than 60 years’ experience with radioactive iodine 131I (RAI) treatment of Graves’ disease (GD) about the most appropriate dosing regime is still controversial. The objective of our research was to analyse the outcome of RAI therapy in our cohort of patients. Methods: Retrospectively, we analysed 603 patients with GD (500 women and 103 men, mean age 51.5±12.7 years) treated with RAI. According to recomme...
