A rare case of metastatic choroidal melanoma to the thyroid gland: the importance of cytology

Vezzosi C , La Magra C , Pedaccini P , Bernardini M , Silvestri S , Nassi R

Metastases in the thyroid gland are very rare and their true incidence has not been clearly established. There are few reports of metastases to this gland and most of them are not detected in clinical practice.Although detection of metastases to the thyroid gland usually indicates poor prognosis aggressive surgical and medical treatment in isolated thyroid metastases may be effective as described for renal carcinoma.Malignant melan...

Biochemical function of adrenal masses is currently based on 1 mg post-overnight dexamethasone suppression test (pDST). Several approaches are recently developed, in order to reduce false positive/negative samples, only in retrospective series. They are based on the correlation of some different parameters, i.e. late-night salivary cortisol (LNSC) vs serum and salivary cortisol pDST; LNSC vs serum and salivary cortisol and serum dexamethasone pDST; LNSC and cortisone vs serum ...

Rap (LDL receptor-associated protein) expression in thyroid epithelial cells: evidence for tsh-dependence in vivo and in vitro

RAP (LDL receptor associated protein) is a 44 kDa endoplasmic reticulum (ER) resident molecular chaperone. In the thyroid RAP is required for expression of megalin, an endocytic receptor responsible for transcytosis of thyroglobulin (Tg), but it also binds to Tg itself, suggesting it may affect thyroid function in various manners. Indeed, findings in RAP KO mice indicate that disruption of the RAP gene results in impaired Tg storage into the colloid, suggesting that RAP serves...
