Excess adiposity, especially in visceral depots, is a major driver of insulin resistance, fatty liver and hyperglycaemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Metabolic surgery as a treatment for type 2 diabetes

The evidence base for obesity surgery in the context of diabetes will be briefly presented introducing the concept of surgery for the metabolic syndrome.
