Chronic exposure to elevated circulating glucocorticoids can lead to metabolic changes, which resemble those observed in Metabolic Syndrome. Features of the Metabolic Syndrome can be reversed by lowering systemic glucocorticoid levels or by treatment with a glucocorticoid receptor antagonist.
