Laszlo Hegedüs, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark Abstract

Laszlo Hegedüs is Professor of Endocrinology at University of Southern Denmark, in Odense and Consultant Endocrinologist at the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Odense University Hospital. His thesis for Doctor of Medical Science (1990) is entitled: ‘Thyroid size determined by ultrasound. Influence of physiological factors and non-thyroidal disease’. He currently serves on the editorial boards of a number of journals and is an editor of Clinical Endocrinology and Hot Thyroidology. He has authored chapters relating to various thyroid issues in several major International Textbooks of Endocrinology including ‘Endocrinology’, ‘Thyroid’ and ‘Oxford Textbook of Endocrinology and Diabetes’. He has authored more than 300 papers, and is a frequently invited speaker at international meetings. Main research areas include clinical thyroidology, aetiology of autoimmune thyroid disease and nontoxic goitre, the understanding of genetic and environmental effects for various thyroid phenotypes, twin studies, the use of radioiodine in toxic and nontoxic goitre, diagnostic imaging and ultrasound-guided interventional diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. He has supervised a number of PhD theses within these areas.
