Abstract: The present work aim to find out if obesity is one of the major causes of metabolic syndrome in Saudi females.

Material and Methods: 1356 volunteers were participated in this study ,they were from three age group from (6–12), (13–15) and (16–18). According to (BMI) and WC percentage the participated children were divided into four groups 10.8% were under weight, 58.6% were normal, 15.2% were overweight and 15.3% were obese BMI and WC reading were compared with the parameter of metabolic syndrome as defined by ATP III (>=3 of the following abnormalities): waist circumference >88 cm, triglycerides >150 mg/dL, cholesterol >200 mg/dL, hypertension (systolic blood pressure >140 mm Hg, diastolic blood pressure >90 mm Hg) and fasting glucose >110 mg/dL, and random >140.

Results: In this study we find out that abdominal obesity, triglyceride and cholesterol among children and adolescents are the most important risk factor of metabolic syndrome.

Conclusions: The metabolic syndrome has received increased attention in the past few years. It consists of multiple risk factors of metabolic origin that appear to directly promote the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). And is strongly associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It also consist of elevated triglycerides and cholesterol concentrations, elevated blood pressure. But the most important risk factors are abdominal obesity. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is high among obese children and adolescents, and become a very series disturbing problem.
