Despite an excellent prognosis for the majority of people with thyroid cancer, a significant proportion of tumours progress to more advanced disease that is difficult to treat. Morbidity and mortality in thyroid cancer occurs as a result of locally invasive or metastatic disease. Therefore, a better understanding of the mechanisms that drive thyroid cancer cell motility and metastasis is required to develop new therapeutic strategies. This symposium will outline our current knowledge of the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate thyroid cancer cell motility and contribute to invasive and metastatic tumour progression.
