Outcomes of surgical and endoscopic resection of duodenal NETs: a systematic review of the literature

Al-Shakhshir Sarah , Dasari Bobby VM , Shah Tahir

Introduction: Duodenal neuro endocrine tumors (d-NETs) comprise about 2% of all NETs. Treatment of d-NETs involves resection of the tumour either by endoscopic or surgical resection. Local resection of the lesion is usually a safer option compared to a more radical pancreaticoduodenectomy. However, inadequate clearance by local resection might result in recurrent disease and reduce the overall survival. There is no current available evidence regarding the extent of resection.<...

Background: Transplantation for cancer indications is evolving rapidly in UK and Ireland. Liver transplantation [LT] for unresectable neuroendocrine tumour liver metastases [NET LM] is one of three new cancer indications. It has the potential to significantly improve survival outcomes however, transplant benefit has likely been achieved only by highly experienced Centre(s). Since eligible patients for transplantation also have excellent prognosis with standard management, care...

Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PanNETs) are the second most common form of pancreatic cancer. Lesions larger than 2 cm are commonly selected for surgical clearance according to the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS) guidelines. In this study, we assessed the variables that may affect recurrence following resection of PanNETs.Methods: All the patients who underwent resection of PanNET over a 5-year periods between 2017 –...

Well-differentiated Gastroenteropancreatic G3 NET: Findings from a large single centre cohort

Lithgow Kirstie , Venkataraman Hema , Hughes Simon , Shah Husnain , Kemp-Blake Joanne , Vickrage Suzanne , Smith Stacey , Humphries Sian , Elshafie Mona , Taniere Philipe , Diaz-Cano Salvador , Dasari Bobby , Almond Max , Ford Sam , Ayuk John , Shetty Shishir , Shah Tahir , Geh Ian

Purpose: Neuroendocrine neoplasms are known to have heterogeneous biological behavior. G3 neuroendocrine tumours (NET G3) are characterized by well-differentiated morphology and Ki67>20%. The prognosis of this disease is understood to be intermediate between NET G2 and neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC). Clinical management of NET G3 is challenging due to limited data to inform treatment strategies. Methods: We describe clinical characteristics, treatment, an...

Background: Pancreatic Neuroendocrine tumours (panNETs) are usually sporadic and non-functioning, but occasionally associated with germ-line mutations causing multiple hereditary endocrinopathies. Small, non-functional lesions may be managed conservatively. For panNETs larger than 2 cm the mainstay of treatment is surgery (2). However, postoperative complications are common and can significantly impact patientsÂ’ quality of life. The aim of this audit was to explore postop...
