2D-SWE PLUS in the assessment of thyroid malignancy

Borlea Andreea , Dana Stoian

Our study assesses the diagnostic performance of 2D shear-wave elastography plane-wave ultrasound (2D-SWE PLUS) in detecting thyroid cancer. Using conventional ultrasound (2B-mode) and 2D-SWE PLUS with SuperSonic Mach30 equipment, 270 thyroid nodules were assessed (Supersonic Imagine, France). In every instance, the outcomes and the pathology reports were compared. 69 (or 25.5%) of the 270 nodules were malignant. 2D-SWE PLUS parameters demonstrated great diagnostic accuracy. T...

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in hyperthyroid diffuse diseases

Stoian Dana , Borlea Andreea

Objective: This study investigates the effectiveness and additional value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in differentiating between destructive thyroiditis and hyperproduction states in patients with diffuse thyroid disease. Methods: In this research, 56 patients diagnosed with hyperthyroid diffuse disease underwent evaluation through CEUS, alongside conventional ultrasound and standard diagnostic tests. We focused on qualitative CEUS parameters l...

Role of elastography in the differentiation of thyroid versus parathyroid lesions

Stoian Dana , Borlea Andreea

An accurate localization diagnosis in parathyroid disease using ultrasound assessment remains a challenge in many instances. The objective of this study is to investigate the diagnostic effectiveness of bidimensional shear wave elastography 2D SWE as a supplementary method for differentiating superficial structures, namely thyroid and parathyroid lesions. Methods or Background: In this study, a total of 140 cases were assessed, including patients with coe...

A combined approach TI-RADS and ceus in detecting thyroid cancer

Stoian Dana , Borlea Andreea

Objective: This study aims to assess and suggest improvements to the Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS), incorporating both classical ultrasound (US) features and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) patterns, to refine malignancy risk categorization in thyroid nodules. Methods: In this study, 250 solid thyroid nodules, all subsequently confirmed by thyroidectomy and pathology, were evaluated using European TI-RADS guidelines and qualitati...

Place of elastography in the diagnostic of intermediary cytology thyroid nodules

Stoian Dana , Derban Mihnea , Cotoi Laura , Borlea Andreea , Varcus Florian

Introduction: Intermediate cytology comprises unclear result form Bethesda III and IV category. This category is still present in the general results of thyroid cytology, with 2–18% AUS/FLUS and 2–5% FN. The attitude after such a results is not standardize, follow up, lobectomy or thyroidectomy being the possible indications to solve such a case. The current paper presents the value of predictive value of ultrasound techniques in the final judgment of these cases.</p...

Polycystic ovary syndrome: inositol vs. Metformin vs. Oral contraceptives – a prospective study

Andreea Borlea , Laura Cotoi , Lisa Katharina Deharde , Izabela Petre , Dan Bogdan Navolan , Dana Stoian

Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hyperandrogenic endocrine disorder associated with chronic oligo-amenorrhea, hirsutism, polycystic ovary morphology (PCOM) and often with insulin resistance. Due to its heterogenic etiology, there is no general treatment, but rather an individual approach, according to patient’s symptoms, needs and wishes. The aim of this study is to detect possible variations in clinical and biochemical outcome in PCOS cases, after trea...

Papillary thyroid carcinoma and Hodgkin Lymphoma in young patients – case report

Cotoi Laura , Borlea Andreea , Petrescu Carmen , Jinca Crtistian , Cerbu Simona , Varcus Flore , Cornianu Marioara , Stoian Dana

Introduction: Differentiated thyroid cancer is one of the most common endocrine malignancies. The most common thyroid cancer in adolescence is PTC. It presents with a high rate of loco regional ganglionic metastasis. Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is a heterogeneous group of neoplasms with an incidence, in Europe, estimated around 2.2–2.7 per 100 000 cases per year. In front of each adolescent case, with concomitant thyroid and lymph nodes, the main question that arises is the pre...

Elastographic techniques in localizing parathyroid adenomas

Cotoi Laura , amzar daniela-georgiana , Andreea Borlea , Cepeha Cristina , Dana Stoian

Introduction: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is the third most frequent endocrinopathy, after type 2 diabetes mellitus and thyroid disease. It is most commonly caused by an overactive parathyroid gland resulting in high serum parathormone (PTH) concentrations and consequent high serum calcium concentrations. PHPT is nowadays commonly asymptomatic, with high prevalence among postmenopausal women (female – male ration 3–4:1).Materials and m...

The impact of strain elastography and 4d doppler in improving the presurgical evaluation of thyroid nodules with intermediate cytology results

Borlea Andreea , Mihaela Cepeha Cristina , Sporea Ioan , Cotoi Laura , Dana Stoian

Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is recommended for diagnosing thyroid nodules with suspicious ultrasound (US) features. Bethesda categories III and IV have conflicting management approaches: follow-up or thyroidectomy. This study aimed to evaluate a multimodal US assessment of the lesions in order to clarify the therapeutic strategy in intermediate cytology cases. 64 successive Bethesda III or IV cases were included. US evaluation consisted of greyscale US, qualitative strain ela...

Prevalence of thyroid disease in end-stage renal disease patients

Cotoi Laura , Amzar Daniela-Georgiana , Andreea Borlea , Cepeha Cristina , Dana Stoian

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is a rising cause of morbidity and mortality in developed countries, including end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Endocrine disorders are highly common endocrine complications among patients with chronic kidney disease, including those receiving dialysis. The prevalence of thyroid comorbidities in patients with chronic kidney disease is documented higher than in normal population.Materials and methods: A cross-sectional ...
