Rusu Eva , Peica Andreea , Gliga Tudor , Stanoiu-Pinzariu Oana , Georgescu Carmen

Introduction: Tumor-induced osteomalacia is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome characterized by the presence of phosphaturic hormone-secreting mesenchymal tumors - fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23), which causes hypophosphatemia and osteomalacia. These tumors are small, frequently infiltrate the surrounding tissues and are located in the connective or bone tissue. 2D-SWE PLUS in the assessment of thyroid malignancy

Borlea Andreea , Dana Stoian

Our study assesses the diagnostic performance of 2D shear-wave elastography plane-wave ultrasound (2D-SWE PLUS) in detecting thyroid cancer. Using conventional ultrasound (2B-mode) and 2D-SWE PLUS with SuperSonic Mach30 equipment, 270 thyroid nodules were assessed (Supersonic Imagine, France). In every instance, the outcomes and the pathology reports were compared. 69 (or 25.5%) of the 270 nodules were malignant. 2D-SWE PLUS parameters demonstrated great diagnostic accuracy. T...

Evolution of patients with discordance between growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1 after pituitary surgery for acromegaly

Olariu Cristina , Bojoga Andreea , Badiu Corin

Introduction: Persistent or intermittent postoperative discordance between growth hormone (GH) after OGTT and insulin-like growth factor-1 adjusted for age and gender (IGF-1) is up to 39% according to different studies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of this discrepancy (normal GH and elevated IGF1 or vice versa) over the risk of biochemical and tumour recurrence after initial successful surgery for acromegaly. Methods: In this retrospec...

Teodoriu Laura , Magdalena Boboc Andreea , Neagu Georgiana , Ioan Bianca , Rosu Andreea , Christina Ungureanu Maria , Preda Cristina

Introduction: The connection between the pharynx and thyroid is close, so in the situations of concomitance: thyroid nodules and pharynx infiltration is very difficult to establish the primary lesion. Extralaryngeal spread of laryngopharyngeal cancer to the thyroid gland can occur by three pathways: direct extension, lymphatic spread or hematogenous spread. Of these three mechanisms, direct extension is the main mechanism because of the close anatomical relationship of the thy...
